Denton West CC 1XI (145/10 – 39.3)
Glossop CC 1XI (83/10 – 31.4)
Glossop CC 1XI’s promotion hopes were dealt a blow with a disappointing 62-run defeat to Denton West at North Road.
Having been 2nd before a ball was bowled, the result sees Glossop slip into 6th place, although they are still less than two wins off the top of the table.
As has often been the case this year, Glossop produced an excellent bowling performance to restrict West, with early wickets for both Cameron Ball (1/31) and Rob Adderley (1/44).
At 70/2, the visitors looked to be in a position of strength with Semila Seyibokwe (26) and Aaqib Uppal (31) at the crease together, but when the former was run out by Adderley, Glossop began the fightback.
With the exception of Liam Kilburn, who struck an explosive 36 from 24 balls, Denton West’s middle and lower order had no answer to the spin combination of Will Hargreaves (3/41) and Alex Coates (4/28).
The visitors lost 8 wickets for 75 runs and crumbled to 145/10 with 10 overs left unused, providing Glossop with an excellent opportunity.
Unfortunately, the hosts endured a nightmare start as they were reduced to 10/3 inside 5 overs thank to wickets from Hamish Dunlop and Ben Lowndes.
Despite some brief positive counter-attacking cricket from Alex Browne and Ball, the trend would ultimately continue when the former, having looked good for his run-a-ball 29, chipped a simple catch to give Dunlop (2/35) his second.
Lowndes continued to enjoy his afternoon, taking the next three wickets, including that of the dangerous Ball for 26, to claim an impressive five-wicket-haul (5/32), the hosts now reeling at 68/7.
Glossop’s lower order provided some defensive resilience, but once again the pressure eventually told with runs difficult to come by, Kilburn (2/12) and Uppal (1/2) claiming the remaining wickets to seal a 62-run victory for their side
