The 2XI are now just one victory away from promotion to Division 2 following a routine victory at home to a struggling Heywood side.
The Heywood batting line-up was no match for Glossop’s impressive pace bowling attack with James Eyre (1-10), Rob Adderley (3-16) and Tim Rogers (5-15 and a run out) doing the damage as the visitors were bowled out for 93 in 41 overs after a bizarre display of batting.
Knowing they could only afford to lose 3 wickets in reply if they wanted to gain a bonus point, Glossop had skipper David Wilde to thank after the left-hander hit a wonderful unbeaten 56*. Glossop had lost Wilde’s fellow opener, Daniel Senior, without scoring early on, but he was supported well by Steve Bates (14), and a vital contribution from Matt Kells (19*) at the end ensured Glossop, 94-3, crossed the line and gained maximum points.
Results elsewhere now mean that Glossop only need to win next week (no bonus points required) at home to Astley & Tyldesley to gain promotion, and should Prestwich fail to win their final game, Glossop could potentially win the title.
