Bowling first, Glossop made an excellent start as James Eyre (1-19) trapped Carr in front first ball. Bullock arrived at the crease and looked in good touch, but Rob Adderley (3-17) removed him for 17 just as he was starting to motor, before claiming the wickets of Black and Rostron just a few balls later. The visitors were struggling at 23-4, but Mann and Kershaw began to rebuild with a good partnership. The pair rode their luck, and had put on 88 together before Glossop finally had a slice of luck in the form of a run out, James Eyre the man on target as Mann returned to the pavilion for 46. Astley & Tyldesley never recovered after the run out as they crumbled from 111-4 to 122-10; Sam Dyson (2-17) and Dave Allen (2-9) taking the remaining wickets as well as a sharp run out from James Atkinson.
Knowing they only needed 5 points to gain promotion, Glossop had the freedom to chase 123 without the worry of losing wickets. The opening pair, David Wilde and Daniel Senior, started positively against the canny Barclay and the spin of Gregory and it quickly became apparent that the home side were going to cruise to the win- it was just a case of how quickly and by how many wickets. The answer to that question, was 21 overs, and with 10 wickets in hand. Wilde played another quality knock and finished 44* from 60 balls (6 x 4’s) whilst Senior hit 80* from 68 balls at the other end, including 8 x 4’s and 3 x 6’s including a maximum to win the game.
Glossop know that next year will be a tough ask, but will be well up for the fight that lies ahead in a 1XI division with only themselves and Prestwich being 2XI sides.
