After a poor run of results, Glossop hosted Denton at North Road looking to put their recent woes behind them with a vital win.
The home side found themselves fielding first on a wicket which despite offering very little for the bowlers, caused some early problems for the Denton openers. After a tight opening spell and an important wicket for Hargreaves before drinks, Glossop never looked back. Some disciplined bowling in the middle overs from spinners Sonczak and skipper Will paved the way for Turner and Senior to pick up 3 wickets each before the visitors were eventually all out for 160.
After a cautious start from Dale and Pennington, both fell cheaply, bringing Kenyon and Sonczak to the crease. The pair put on an important partnership before Kenyon fell for an impressive 67, leaving a composed Sonczak to finish the game with a 6 down the ground to secure a much needed victory for the home side by 6 wickets. Despite the losses of late, the win sees Glossop move up to second in the table before next week’s match against rivals Denton West. Elsewhere, the 2nd XI claimed a comprehensive 10 wicket win in the reverse fixture.
