The sterling work of Glossop’s dedicated junior co-coordinator and lead coach at the popular Friday Night coaching sessions at North Road has been recognised by the ECB and Derbyshire Cricket Board recently.
Roger, seen here receiving his award from former England captain Nasser Hussain, was presented with the Derbyshire Cricket Board Coach of the Year Award for Sporting Achievement at the recent England v Pakistan test match at Edgbaston.
The award, which recognises the enormous amount Roger gives back to Glossop Cricket Club and the wider game was presented on the outfield during the lunch break last Thursday.
Despite being in his 70s Roger is still busy coaching cricket most evenings at North Road, either working with the primary school sessions on a Friday, organising the under-nines tournaments or working with his team of coaches to ensure the other age groups, (U10, U11, U13, U15 & U18) are progressing satisfactorily. In recent years there has been success at most age groups and this has been in no small part down to Roger’s dedication and drive.
He will be busy on North Road again next week, working with the next group of young players at the Summer School, along with Gionne Koopman, the club’s South African professional. The Summer School is open to girls and boys in school years 3-8, contact Roger on 01457 764366 or download a booking form here.
