Lancashire 2nds win at North Road in glorious sunshine
For once the weather matched the occasion as a big crowd enjoyed the annual 2nd XI county game sponsored by E-Petch Printers Ltd. at North Road last Monday. In warm sunshine Lancashire won the toss and asked the home side to bat first. Openers Borrington & Durham got their side off to a good start and the first five Derbyshire batsmen all contributed to an impressive 40 over total of 235 for7. Denton boy Steve Parry had his side’s best figures of 2-27 in 8 overs. Poynton (57) and Redfern ( 45) top-scored for Derbyshire.
In reply the Lancashire openers Reece and Davies scored freely against the home pace bowlers at over 8 runs an over, reaching 140 before the partnership ended with Reece out for 75. The Derbyshire slow bowlers fought back and gave their side an outside chance of victory but opener Davies saw his side home with 13 balls to spare thanks to his outstanding innings of 116 not out. The crowd of over 600 spectators enjoyed the glorious sunshine so typical of Glossop in early June . Glossop Cricket Club looks forward to many more such days of cricket in ideal conditions.
