Glossop 1XI hosted Dukinfield at North Road on a damp pitch, following the constant downpour from the previous night. Glossop lost the toss and batted first, and with a line-up that promised so much, George Dyson was the only one to show any real resistance as the hosts limped to 112-9 in the reduced game. In reply, the visitors looked as if they were heading towards a straightforward victory at 100-3, before a stunning spell of off spin bowling from captain Will Hargreaves, taking 5-23 from 14 overs, meant Dukinfield were 110-9. However, despite the exciting climax, it wasn’t to be for Glossop as the Dukinfield tail mustered together the final 3 runs and crawled over the line; a disappointing result for Glossop.
It was a weekend where the town of Glossop was hit hard by Wembley fever, and in the end it got the better of everyone with a much depleted 2nd XI also going down to Dukinfield’s 2nds in a rain affected game where Glossop’s 10 men mustered 112-6 in 36 overs (Wilde 51). Duki knocked them off for the loss of only 2 wickets.
This coming weekend sees a rare free Saturday for the senior teams and the first round of cup matches on Sunday – 1st XI away at Woodbank in the Walkden Cup, 2nds at home to the same club in the Hulme Trophy.
