Lancashire Girls U15s: 225/2
Derbyshire Girls U15s: 93/8
Last Wednesday saw girls’ county cricket at North Road for the first time as a Derbyshire U15s team containing three local girls, Alice Dyson and Lucy Renwick from Glossop CC and Macey Logan from Dinting CC, took on the strong U15s team from Lancashire which included five players in the current England squad. The standard of cricket was excellent as the home girls tried to contain the powerful Lancashire batting. An excellent 108* in 95 balls from skipper Emma Lamb, supported by Nalisha Patel with 64, took the visitors to an impressive 225-2 after their 40 overs. In reply the Derbyshire girls struggled against the visitors’ strong attack and, losing wickets at regular intervals, ended their innings on 93-8.
The girls’ next matches will be against sides not so strong as Lancashire and they can take great credit from their efforts at North Road. The visiting officials and parents were impressed by the excellent wicket and facilities, and of course by the dry if slightly cool weather conditions prevailing in the area at the start of the cricket season. All in all, a good day for Glossop and above all for the future of women’s cricket.
