Mixed weather on North Road

Heavy rain in the early afternoon made play impossible on North Road for the Glossop 1st XI v Thornham last Saturday. The seconds fared no better on their long trek to near Rochdale- two points all round! The only team to squeeze wins from a miserable day were Woodbank whose two games v Stretford somehow managed to produce enough overs to allow results in favour of the Bury side.

On Sunday Derbyshire U14s entertained Lancashire in a 45 over match at North Road still very wet after even more rain during the night. Bright sunshine and a drying wind allowed a start at 11.45 am in front of another good crowd. Lancashire batted first and posted 174 , slightly disappointing after an opening stand of 80. The young Derbyshire spinners put their side back in the game, but a stronger, older Lancashire bowling attack some made inroads into the Derbyshire side, and bowled the home team out for 104 in the 38th over.

Meanwhile Glossop CC were well represented in the LCL league side at Royton and the colts side at Stretford. The senior side, including Dale Pennington and Alex Coates and captained by Will Hargreaves, beat a strong CLL side at Royton (CLL 141a/o  LCL 142/4 ) ,while the colts, including Dan Senior, George Dyson, Matt Sonczak and Will Coates from Glossop, lost narrowly to a Bolton Association side.

Glossop 1st team travel to Stretford next Saturday and to Longridge, Preston on Sunday in the second round of the Lancashire KO cup.
