Pennington’s undefeated weekend

Glossop CC enjoyed two wins last weekend, the first at Stretford in the league on Saturday. The home side were bowled out for 113, the wickets shared by the Glossop bowlers. In reply the visitors reached 116/2 in good time with Dakle Pennington leading the way with 62 n/o – 5 points to the Glossop side. Back at North Road the seconds snatched a much-needed victory in the last over – Stretford 187/7, Glossop 188/6.
On Sunday the 1st XI travelled to Longridge near Preston in the second round of the Lancashire Cup. In damp, overcast conditions the visitors were asked to bat first and struggled to make progress on a pitch of uneven bounce. At 27/3 victory seemed unlikely but enter Mr Pennington once more . Having been dropped off a dolly catch before reaching double figures, he made the home side regret their error. With good support from Coates ( five 4s in his 26), Kenyon (four 6s in his 36) and finally Cole Turner ( 21 n/o in an eighth wicket stand of 67 in five overs), Pennington reached his century with five sixes and nine 4s. The Glossop innings closed on 269/7 ( Pennington 116n/o) after their 45 overs.
In reply Longridge slumped to 4/2 and were always behind the required rate from that point. They recovered to reach 209 ( Senior 1/28 in his 9 overs, the most economical bowler of the match) but lost their last wicket in the 45th over to leave the visitors winners by 60 runs. So on to the third round early next month and another away game, this time at Walsden, Todmorden the 2013 CCL league champions.
Next Saturday Glossop 1st team, six points clear at the top of the LCL league table, play Roe Green at North Road.
