Having alternated at the start of the season between easy victory and heavy defeat in between several rain affected matches, the second team have now started to string several victories togther.
Following back to back success last weekend against DSL and Prestwich, it was the turn of Woodbank to visit Glossop on Saturday.
Batting first in the sunshine on a pristine white track Woodbank progressed to 42 off 12 overs before Leyland struck having Barlow caught behind by Megram, shortly followed by opening partner Chapman. 50-2 became 82-5 as miserly bowling from Senior saw off the middle order before Coates took two wickets in his his first over to leave Woodbank tottering on 95-7 with 10 overs still to come. Another for Senior left the visitors on 103-8 but at last some stubborn resistance from Vickers and veteran No 10 Kitchen saw Woodbank to 135-8 off their allotted 50 overs.
Coates and Senior commenced Glossop’s reply in steady fashion but soon accelerated, reaching 38 in the 11th over before Coates was bowled for 18. Malkin joined Senior and they broke the back of the Woodbank attack moving on to 96 before Malkin was adjudged LBW for 21. Shortly after Senior had just reached his maiden 50 for the 2nds he was caught leaving Kells and Bottomley to score the last 30 runs to bring the game to an early finish. A 7 wicket victory inside 30 overs and plenty of time left to enjoy the sunny afternoon in Glossop.
Glossop 2nds now sit in 5th place in the league at the mid point and next weekend sees them visit Denton where they will be looking to continue their winning ways.
