27th July 2019 Preview
After two strong wins last time out, this weekend is set to be an important one in the context of both the 1XI’s and 2XI’s seasons.
The 1XI, having comprehensively beaten Heywood by 8 wickets last Saturday, will be looking to further improve their league position in a top-of-the-table GMCL Division 1A clash.
A win on the road against Moorside, whom Glossop sit just four points behind, would see them overtake their opponents and could, depending on other results, move them into top spot.
The 1XI can take confidence from when the two sides last met in May, when a strong bowling performance and runs from Oliver Kenyon (36) and Jarrod Holmes (43) helped to secure a comfortable 76-run victory.
With it being an away game, that of course means it’s time for the next instalment of Mark Senior’s Walk for Life, in aid of The Christie. You can follow Mark’s progress at glossopcbc.co.uk/scorers-challenge/.
The 2XI face a similarly difficult task as they take on high-flying Winton 1XI at North Road, but will be enthused following last week’s impressive triumph against Prestwich.
One of three sides with considerably more points than the rest of the sides in GMCL Division 2A, Winton are aiming to bounce straight back from the disappointment of relegation in 2018 with a promotion push and easily brushed aside the 2XI in the reverse fixture.
On the other hand, a win for Glossop – which would be four in their last five – could push them to as high as 4th with favourable results elsewhere.
Stumps pitched at 1pm for the 2XI’s fixture at North Road, and the bar will be open throughout the afternoon.
