Glossop 1XI ran out easy winners after victory over a Woodhouses side languishing towards the bottom of the LCL table. Will Hargreaves won the toss and decided to bat – his decision proving to be the correct one with 10 overs gone and the score 66-1; both Lee Dale and Oliver Kenyon going strong. Kenyon was dismissed shortly after for a solid 25, and when George Dyson and Alex Coates followed suit Matthew Sonczak arrived at the crease, fresh from his match saving 115 for Derbyshire the day before. Lee Dale couldn’t manage to replicate his double century of the 2013 season, but continued his good form at the small ground, smashing his way to a blistering 123 before he too departed. There was no let up for Woodhouses as a merciless Sonczak carried on his fluent, free scoring knock, ending unbeaten on 75* off just 67 balls, well supported by John Stopford at the other end, Glossop posting a daunting 294.
Woodhouses started positively bringing up 37 off the first 4 overs, but the introduction of spin soon swung the game back in Glossop’s favour. Matthew Sonczak and Alex Coates both picked up 2 wickets a piece, whilst Hargreaves ended with impressive figures 4-25 from 13 overs. A simple 5 point victory in the end leading into a tough game against DSL next week.
At North Road the 2XI recorded a routine win with Woodhouses stumbling their way to 93-8 in 45 overs, 3 wickets each for Sam Dyson and David Wilde, and 2 for Daniel Senior. In reply, David Wilde and Will Coates had no trouble in knocking off the target for the loss of no wickets, Wilde finishing 58* with Coates 35*. Not the ideal test leading into a final but a win nonetheless.
