Glossop Cricket Club is delighted to announce the return of Cole Turner and the signing of Sam Elliott for the 2017 season.
Cole, 19, initially joined the club from Dinting as a junior. Since making the move all those years ago, he’s also enjoyed spells at Droylsden and most recently, Thornham. He returns after a season at the Rochdale-based club where he gained valuable experience consistently playing competitive 1XI cricket.
A strong top order batsman and an excellent fielder, Cole is set to be a valuable asset for Glossop this year. Once a promising opening bowler, Turner has unfortunately been hampered by injuries in recent years, but he’s determined to come back stronger than ever following a winter in Australia.
Similarly, Sam plied his trade at Dinting before making the switch this winter. Having spent a long time in the Derbyshire & Cheshire League, this will be his first experience of the new Greater Manchester League and he’s looking forward to the challenge ahead.
A capable right hand bat and part-time off spinner, he’ll provide added quality to the squad this season as competition for places hots up. He brings with him the know how of winning trophies, boasting both league and cup successes for Dinting during his time there.
The pair join in addition to the signings of Lee Dale and Chris Tipper, announced late in 2016. The duo, who have both made the move across from Bamford Fieldhouse, will take on the roles of 1XI professional and vice-captain respectively.
