The second walk for our scorer’s challenge saw Mark heading for Heywood on 4th May.
With the temperature only just above freezing and a much earlier start it was a very different start to the previous one.
Due to the need to be in Newcastle for work on Saturday evening I covered the section from the cricket club to Tameside Hospital on Friday afternoon, It was then a cold 7:00am start on Downton Road on Saturday morning.
Heading across to Oldham Road, up past Smokies and Park Cakes, the route then took me through Werneth, and Chadderton and on towards Middleton.
A quick stop for refreshments at Summers Sandwich shop and then on through Middleton, up the hill past Middleton CC, and along towards the M62. By this time the temperature had picked up nicely and it was a pleasant stroll through Heywood to arrive at the ground just after 11.
Having allowed plenty of time to get there I actually covered the ground much faster than expected and made it on to the ground before any of the players from either side! Feet up for half an hour, coffee and a chat with the steward.
Thanks to everyone at Heywood CC for their support and best wishes throughout the afternoon. Another £500 toward the funds for The Christie and a win for Glossop on the field too. (Match report here)
