The 2017 cricket season gets underway this weekend at North Road , home of Glossop CC, with GMCL fixtures on Saturday April 22nd. The 1st XI are at home to Prestwich in the Premier division of the new league and the 2nd XI are away at Droylsden after their promotion last season. Lee Dale’s return as pro will help the first team to challenge for honours in their very competitive division, while the 2nds play their games against the first teams at all other clubs bar Prestwich 2nds , the reward for promotion from division 3 last year. The club’s six junior sides will play in mid-week and Sunday morning fixtures, whilst the Friday night sessions begin with registration night on April 28th followed by the first coaching session the first Friday in May. As usual in sunny Glossop, much will depend on the weather being kind, especially during the last week in June when Derbyshire 2nds play a 3-day game + a T20 double-header against the MCC Young Cricketers on their first visit to the High Peak. Of the field former club skipper Phil Hartshorne has taken over the chairman’s job from Alan Garlick, who stays on as vice-chair after 15 years in the top job. All at the club would like to thank Alan for his outstanding commitment and tireless service to the club. He has played a key role in both on and off the field developments and moves sideways into a new role with the club in an excellent position to further develop over the coming years.
Groundsman Ken Wilde is hoping that the fine weather will continue to allow him to prepare the ground for another busy summer. We hope to see many of our old friends, and maybe a few new ones, on the ground this summer.
