Glossop: 99/10 [34.5]
Glossop’s poor form continued with another defeat in the GMCL Premier League as the season reached the half-way mark.
Batting first, Glossop looked to have recovered well through Lee Dale and Chris Tipper after losing both openers, Dan Eyre (4) and Dale Pennington (3), early on.
When Tipper (12) fell to the spin of Beckford, though, a colossal collapse began as 48/2 soon became 99/10.
Lee Dale’s innings was the only positive from the first half, hitting a quick-fire 61 as he looked to find a return to form.
Apart from Tipper and Dale, no other player managed to muster double figures, 2 the highest score from any Glossop player batting lower than Dale at 4.
Alton Beckford performed well with 2/30 for the home side, but it was Usman Tariq who starred for Flixton taking 4/17 in 12 high-quality overs before an explosive innings with the bat.
Tariq smashed 64 from just 33 balls, including 12 x 4’s and 2 x 6’s, before Will Hargreaves (1/10) had him caught and bowled to bring his impressive power-hitting to an end.
The damage was already done, though, as Flixton cruised towards their target, reaching it in just 11.5 overs.
Stephen Hunt was the only other Glossop bowler to find any joy, taking 2/28 with the wickets of Luke Perry (5) and Alex Heaton (10).
Things don’t get any easier next week as they travel to old LCL rivals, Prestwich, in what is now a must-win game if they’re to have any chance of staying in touch with the rest of the league.
