Glossop’s 1st team match with Dukinfield last Saturday was ruined by the weather – two points all-round and Glossop keep a four point lead at the top of the LCL 1st division.
On Sunday in the first round of the Lancashire KO cup Glossop travelled to Rochdale Catholic Club and went through to the second round with a 1-0 win in a bowl-out earning a trip to Longridge, Preston from the Palace Shield League in the second round, some consolation for a weekend ruined by the wet weather.
Glossop 1st team play Cheetham Hill at home on Saturday. Sunday sees a Lancs v Derbyshire U15s game at North Road, weather permitting of course.
2nds Washed Out
The 2nds, looking to bounce back from league and cup defeat the previous weekend had an equally frustrating day on Saturday when no play was possible anywhere in the league and 2 points sees them stuck mid-table.
3rd Time Lucky
Whilst the 3rds did manage to start on another wet day on Sunday, the weather was the eventual winner in their match against league newcomers Newton. In a welcome return to the side after a long injury lay-off Cole Turner made 31 in a total of 80-4 before rain caused the game to be called off after 25 overs.
Monday saw the thirds in action again in a cup fixture at Denton West. Batting first Glossop openers C Turner (56) and W Coates (60) made confident progress and a partnership of 115 in 27 overs underpinned a strong total of 180-8 in the allotted 40 overs.
A tight and aggressive opening spell from George Hartshorne (2-11) and Alice Dyson (0-11) had West well behind the rate after 12 overs and Glossop ended the game winners by 57 runs when West’s last man was run out in the final over. They now meet Ashton in the semi finals.
