Glossop CC 1XI (153/10 – 45.1)
Moorside CC 1XI (74/10 – 30.2)
Glossop CC 1XI won by 76 runs (D/L Method)
An excellent bowling performance at North Road helped Glossop CC 1XI continue their unbeaten start to the 2019 season and move into 3rd in the GMCL Division 1 table.
In a first innings briefly interrupted by rain, Glossop lost two early wickets with both Dale Pennington and Alex Coates dismissed by Drew Fullalove.
Skipper Oliver Kenyon and Cameron Ball weathered an early storm with a crucial 48-run partnership, but when the latter was caught off the bowling of Ernest Kemm for 18 the batting side began to wobble.
Impressive bowling from Kemm (3/42) and Imran Khan (2/27) saw the hosts lose 5 wickets, including those of Kenyon (36) and professional Alex Browne, for just 20 runs in a tough 13-over period.
Although Glossop had slipped from a position of strength to one of great vulnerability at 88/7, Jarrod Holmes batted superbly alongside the lower order on his 1XI debut as the innings’ momentum swung once more.
The former Denton man hit a quickfire 43 from just 54 balls to help Glossop to 153/10, and was well supported by Will Hargreaves (10) and Rob Adderley (10).
Defending a marginally sub-par total, Kenyon’s men could have hardly have asked for a better start as Adderley (2/19) and Ball (3/31) removed Moorside’s top 5 in a remarkable opening spell which saw the visitors reduced to 35/5.
With the pressure firmly on, Glossop continued to take wickets regularly through Hargreaves and Coates, both of whom struck early in their spells, and a run out courtesy of a composed piece of work from James Eyre.
Despite a resilient effort from Khan, who used up 47 balls for his 12 runs, the home side finished off a thoroughly professional job with Hargreaves (2/9) and Coates (2/13) claiming the final two wickets to help Glossop secure a comfortable 76-run victory.
